October Moon is the Hunter's moon.
The planets Jupiter and Saturn are well up in the evening sky as October begins. You might have noticed Jupiter appears very, very bright. That's because at the end of September it had it's closest approach to Earth for many years. Jupiter came close to -3 magnitude.
Mars - although not as close this apparition, Mars makes up for some of this as it is positioned high in the sky. When on the meridian, it will be at an altitude of 70 - 72 degrees. Get out and check it out - after November it starts moving away from us.
Orionid Meteor Shower peaks on the morning of Friday the 21st. The waning crescent moon shouldn't interfere too much. Look just above Orion's head.
With the leak issues and hurricane season, Artemis 1 Moon launch will be lucky to go in October. May be later!
Neil DeGrasse Tyson interviews NASA's Planetary Defense Officer about the DART mission:
Spacecraft can reach astonishing speeds. When NASA's DART spacecraft hit the asteroid Dimorphos, it impacted at a blistering 6.6 kilometers per second (4 miles per second).

The Sun continues to be very active and is worth observing if you have the proper solar filters. You can check the National Solar Observatory's website to see current images in white light and hydrogen-alpha from professional solar telescopes around the globe:
